Domestic Violence & Pro Sports: Houston Matters

Last week, the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee held a hearing on domestic violence in professional sports. The meeting examined policies regarding domestic violence in the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA and the NHL. Committee members say the problem has come into focus since a video surfaced of pro-football player Ray Rice striking his then-fiancée (now wife) in a hotel elevator.

In light of the Senate hearing, we discuss whether violent behavior on the field also leads to violent behavior off the field. We talk with Houston-based psychologist Dr. Kristin Anderson, who specializes in sport psychology, among other areas, and is herself a former player for the Houston Energy in the Independent Women’s Football League.
